Open Source Flash#6: Reverse engineering

25 Feb

If you like decompiling and understanding how VMs and compilers work, here’s two applications that will suit you:

FLASM (Flasm disassembles your entire SWF including all the timelines and events. Looking at disassembly, you learn how the Flash compiler works, which improves your ActionScript skills.)

And if you like to parse a swf and remove all the .as code:

FLARE (Flare processes an SWF and extracts all scripts from it. The output is written to a single text file. Only ActionScript is extracted, no text or images. Flare is freeware. Windows, Mac OS X and Linux versions are available.)

Simple executables, cross plataform flash-fun. Credits to the authors.
